A List of Suspicious Things is waiting for me on the holds shelf at the library. I am excited to read it. Are you still in touch with Kendal? You should try to find her!
We are not currently in contact, but I know where she is and how to find her. In about 2007 or 2008, the kids and I went to visit her and spent the weekend with her and her daughter. We had a great time and when I was on Facebook we'd send each other things that made us think of each other.
This is all so familiar! I had this friend when I was a kid - the one who was the best kind of bad influence. (I was also obsessed with Trixie Belden mysteries!)
Trixie! I loved her so much, more than Nancy Drew because she wasn't so goody-goody! I desperately wanted a gang of friends like the Bob Whites and for us to all have matching jackets and solve mysteries! I also relate to looking back on either being kinda mean to or treating another kid less thoughtfully than I might have as a kid myself and feeling bad about it. :( And it would have broken my heart to have a friend move away. (Until my family moved to our shared hometown, I was always the one who moved away, but it was all before fourth grade and I think it was a bit easier at that younger age.) I remember "best friends" changing from year to year, sometimes dramatically, but it must have been so hard to lose someone you were still close to at that age.
